What size chipper does a tree service need, 6 inch or 8 inch?
A 6 inch wood chipper like the ST6P HD suits smaller crews, residential pruning and removals where most material is limbs and brush. An 8 inch wood chipper takes larger limbs and whole tops through an 8 × 10 inch feed opening, so crews spend less time cutting material down before it goes in. If you regularly handle wood over 6 inches, or run the chipper all day, step up to an 8 inch model.
Should I buy a tracked or a towable chipper?
Choose a towable chipper when your truck can reach the work: street trees, roadside jobs and open lots. Choose a tracked chipper when it can’t: back yards, wooded sites, slopes and fuel reduction work. A tracked machine drives to the material, which cuts the time your crew spends dragging brush.

The 6 inch ST6P HD runs a 40 HP Vanguard gas engine. The 8 inch models are diesel: a 49 HP Doosan in the ST8D and a 55 HP Doosan in the TR8D and XR8D. The XR8D’s Tier 4 diesel uses a particulate filter and needs no DEF fluid.
